In “Book Under the Pew” Edgerton explores the untold stories of black land ownership through her family, The Whitakers. Through portraiture, landscapes and intensive research, Edgerton honors the women in her family who stood in the gap while the men were off at war. Inspired by Rashod Taylor, Rahim Fortune, Deana Lawson and many more, Edgerton crafts a compelling story about black land ownership, southern Baptist life, and how it all intertwines.
