Tyler Mitchell at High Museum of Art

Viewing imagery that engages your senses at Tyler Mitchell’s “Idyllic Space” exhibition at High Museum of Art .✨

I’ve been a fan of Mitchell’s work for years but being able to finally see it in person was refreshing and didn’t disappoint. His images have a way of engaging your senses that I can now say definitely translates from books, magazines and billboards to seeing it up close and in the flesh. I also had the pleasure of attending the artist talk where so many gems were dropped by Mitchell and writer Imani Perry. Perry emphasized how “to tell stories of the South is to tell stories of the greatness, difficulty and beauty of our nation.” All of which is ever present in her writing and Mitchell’s cinematic images. I really enjoyed being able to experience such an atmospheric exhibition and also learn a bit about Mitchell’s practice as an image maker. ✨
